The YouTube Effect is now available in a teaser trailer. The documentary by Alex Winter will be shown at the Tribeca Festival, on June 11, in the Spotlight Documentary section. The film is an acquisition title that CAA Media Finance handled sales. It takes viewers on a compelling journey into the darkened worlds of YouTube and parent Google.
Olive Hill Media presented the film and Trouper Productions, Valhalla Entertainment and Zipper Bros. produced the film. The film examines YouTube’s rise to become the most popular media platform in history, sparking cultural revolutions, and causing massive controversy in an age of disinformation.
YouTube earned $8.6 billion in advertising revenue in the fourth quarter. This is an increase of 25%, as traditional media struggle. YouTube is a hotbed for online radicalization and surveillance, algorithmic capitalism, and the dissemination of misinformation. This world is home to some of the best minds in tech, media, politics, and business. It also includes pranksters, trolling, and conspiracy theorists.
Winter (Bill & Ted Face the Music. Showbiz Kids. The Panama Papers. Zappa) said, “I’m humbled and grateful to be premiering a movie at Tribeca.” “The festival is renowned for its cultural sophistication and cultural savvy. It’s the ideal home for a documentary about the global impact of tech titans YouTube or Google.”
Winter, Gale Anne Hurd, (Mankiller Trilogy, The Terminator Trilogy, and The Walking Dead), and Glen Zipper (“Undefeated Challenger: Final Flight”, What’s my Name: Muhammad Ali, Zappa) are the producers of the narrative. Mimi Rode, Michael Cho, and Tim Lee are the executive producers for Olive Hill Media (WeWork Or The Making and Breaking a $47 billion Unicorn), Michael Y. Chow, and Sue Turley for XRM Media, Ian Orefice, Rebecca Teitel, and Mike Beck for Time Studios.
